The OffBox was a smaller project I worked on in an environment where adaptive design was being emphasized. Everyone around me seemed to be designing things for phone addicts: a dock for charging, a passive speaker system, a 3d printed case. While they were some fine accessories, I decided to see If I couldn't create an object which encouraged direct person-to-person interaction, circumventing phones altogether. From there I came up with the OffBox
I created with the design for the OffBox, which can be placed on a table or booth in cafes, coffee shops, etc. It is meant to provide an opportunity for people to remove themselves from their phones while in the company of others. By placing your phone in the OffBox, you are not physically restrained from your device, but it is a physical reminder of the distraction phones can be on dates or in other social situations. Sometimes it's nice to just have that friendly reminder.
